Description

1998 Ferrari F355 F1 Berlinetta
We are delighted to offer this low mileage, outstanding condition, Ferrari 355, finished in the stunning combination of Giallo Fly over Black hides.
Unveiled at the 1994 Geneva Motor Show, the F355 Berlinetta quickly became the benchmark in its class. The increased power of the new 5-valve per cylinder V8 was complemented by a truly exceptional chassis, with extremely efficient, electronically controlled suspension. The iconic styling cemented the 355 as a ‘poster car’ for a generation of petrol heads.
Initially, the 6-speed manual was the only transmission available in the 355. However, in 1997, the Berlinetta was the first-ever road car to be equipped with the innovative F1-style gearbox management system. Derived directly from Formula 1, where it made its debut in 1989 winning the Brazilian Grand Prix, the system was operated by paddles behind the steering wheel. The new transmission guaranteed faster gear changes, with the additional advantage that both of the driver's hands could stay on the wheel at all times. A true game-changer.
The F355’s mid-rear 3496 cc 90° V8 engine is a masterful piece of engineering punching out 380 hp, its impressive horsepower and torque were achieved by adopting a new five-valve cylinder head. Its blistering performance figures were the result of aerodynamic honing that focused specifically on the underbody.
The two-seater F355 Berlinetta had an aluminium and steel body. Its styling was moulded around an aerodynamically severe design that included a full-body undertray designed to equalise downforce. It also has pop up headlights, which let’s be honest, are so cool. The cabin was designed with both safety and driving pleasure in mind. The seats and trim are Connolly leather. The chassis was a steel monocoque with a tubular steel rear sub-frame. Both front and rear suspension used independent wishbones and electronic dampers with two settings.
This ‘collector grade’ F355 we are pleased to offer is finished in its original specification Giallo Fly paintwork with Black Connolly hide interior and has a superb service record with Ferrari main dealers and specialists. Invoices contained in its history folder demonstrate no expense has been spared, in the maintenance and upkeep of this car. Prior to offering this car for sale, it has been thoroughly serviced and prepared by one of the country’s best technicians, including a cam belt service and 4 new tyres and no sticky interior plastics! The car is also supplied complete with original handbooks and tools.
The car also benefits from having been upgraded with carbon fibre kick plates and an Alcantara steering wheel has been fitted by its previous owner at no insignificant cost. The original wheel can be refitted to the car if that is the preference of its next custodian. Purchased by a long standing enthusiast client of Nicholas Mee & Co in 2010, who has used the car strictly on ‘high days and holiday’ and now having covered just 20,713 miles from new, this superb example of Ferrari’s last truly hand-built model, is supplied inclusive of 12 months Warranty and MoT certificate.
Available for viewing and demonstration now at our Hertfordshire showrooms.
