Description

The Ferrari F355 was introduced in May 1994, as a direct replacement for the Ferrari 348. Initially the F355 was only available with 6 speed manual transmission but in 1997 the Formula One style paddle gear shift developed by Ferrari and Magneti Marelli was launched. The emphasis behind the Pininfarina designed F355 was to improve performance, as well as drivability across a wider range of speeds and in different environments including lower city speeds. The F355 was built around a steel monocoque with tubular steel rear sub-frame. The 355 offered fully independent front and rear suspension with coil springs over gas-filled telescopic shock absorbers, electronic control servos and anti-roll bars. Aerodynamic design for the car included over 1,300 hours of wind tunnel analysis. The car incorporates a “Nolder” profile on the upper portion of the tail, and fairing on the underbody that generates negative lift when the car is at speed.

Apart from the displacement increase from 3.4 to 3.5 litre, the major difference between the V8 engine in the F348 and F355 is the introduction of a 5-valve per cylinder head, hence the name F355 – 3.5l and 5 valves per cyliner. This new head design allowed for better air intake and resulted in a more powerful engine producing 370bhp at 8,250rpm, this resulted in a 0-60 mph of just 4.6 secs and onto a top speed of 183mph. As with all Ferrari’s only the best materials available at the time were used in their no expense spared production.

The Ferrari F355 F1 Spider offered here at Autostorico was supplied new in April 1998 by Tamsen Ferrari Germany. Finished in Nero with Nero leather, this lovely example has covered a mere 21,209 miles and has been well maintained with the last service having been carried out by Autohaus Ferrari at 20,320 miles. This striking example offers such specification highlights as; Red brake calipers, Climate control, Original Ferrari tool kit, CD changer, Electric windows and Remote central locking.
