With its exceptional designs and technical innovation, Ferrari continues to develop some of the finest performance cars available. Spanning a 60-plus-year partnership with Pininfarina, Ferrari’s legendary combination of design and performance has consistently delivered automobiles of astonishing beauty, power, and prestige. Among the more recent and celebrated examples of this powerful combination of tradition and technology is the 599 GTB Fiorano.
Introduced at the 2006 Geneva Auto Show, the 599 GTB was developed as the replacement for the 575M by Frank Stephenson under the direction of Pininfarina’s creative director Ken Okuyama. Among the many important aerodynamic features of the new model, the distinctive flying buttresses at the C-pillars allowed for maximum airflow and increased downforce at the rear of the car. Stunning looks aside, track performance was phenomenal, boasting 0–60 in 3.2 seconds, the quarter-mile in 11.0 seconds, and a top speed of 205 mph, matching the epic Enzo. Acknowledged at the time as one of Ferrari’s last production cars to be offered with the optional six-speed transaxle, the 599 GTB Fiorano is now regarded as the final statement of the manual shift era.
This particular example is one of just 20 North American 599 GTBs originally built with the six-speed manual transaxle, among a total of 30 worldwide. Delivered to Porsche of Plano, Texas, this dramatic black over black 599 GTB was later owned by C.J. Wilson, a pitcher for the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels.
C.J. Wilson recently reported that he thoroughly enjoyed the 599 as a daily driver during his 2011 season. When the current owner acquired the Ferrari in 2013, it showed just 9,784 miles; and in September 2014, at 10,430 miles, the consignor had it serviced at Forza Motors in Monterey, California. A new clutch assembly, flywheel, throw-out bearing, seals, and battery were installed. Since that service, the car has been driven just a few miles, displaying 10,595 miles at the time of cataloguing.
Today, the 599 remains in outstanding condition throughout, having been dutifully cared for in a private southeastern collection. The gleaming black finish beautifully reveals the sensuous body lines, masterfully sculpted details, and aggressive stance; and the glass, which is normally visually separated from the car, cohesively blends with the body panels. The interior is beautifully finished with red stitching and carbon fiber accents, perfectly contoured Daytona-style leather seats, and of course, the all-important gated aluminum shift panel.
Accompanied by correct manuals, tools and covers, this rare and highly desirable six-speed 599 GTB Fiorano is reflective of the magic of the company’s legendary performance sports cars, while infused with the modern technology and driveability of a contemporary Ferrari. Truly representing the end of an era, this is a Ferrari to be both celebrated and enjoyed.
