OVERVIEW

The 575 Supecamerica is the spiritual successor to the open top Ferrari 550 Barchetta. While the limited production 550 Barchetta was an exceptional car, Ferrari heard the comments from owners that the car (which had NO top) was a touch extreme to enjoy as much as desired. The new 575 Superamerica was the answer – the security of a coupe for long drives or inclement weather, and the ability to go topless as needed.

Just 559 examples were produced worldwide, with approximately 170 of those for the USA market. Ferrari billed the car as the “World’s Fastest Convertible” when it came out, boasting an impressive top speed of 199 mph. It features a front mounted V12 engine with a rear transaxle, and comes from a long lineage of V12 Ferrari GT cars produced over the decades.

Based on the 575M Maranello, the Superamerica features that model’s upgraded engine and suspension, ensuring further performance and exclusivity. With 533hp on tap from the 5.7L V12 engine, this presents a true Ferrari experience whenever called upon. With the flick of the Sport button, the active damping suspension gets tighter, traction control gets a longer leash, and the F1 transmission reduces shift times to 180 milliseconds.

One of the best in-period articles (full of superlatives written by Arthur St. Antoine) is from Motor Trend in October 2005 – “The car feels smaller than it is. Part of that sense of leanness is due to sheer horsepower. The Superamerica is crazily, impossibly fast. Dip into the throttle, and the Ferrari doesn't just accelerate--it seems to suck the approaching corner right into its ravenous maw.”

For the 575 Superamerica, the patented roof is the most defining feature of the car. Made out of carbon fiber, Ferrari calls it Revocromico, which helps describe both of its main characteristics – it rotates to open, and has electrochromic glass. The opening mechanism is elegantly simple – it flips open 180 degrees on a single axis in less than 10 seconds. The glass has an electrochromic layer allowing adjustment to the opaqueness – from light to dark in just 60 seconds.

Sold new at Shelton Sports Cars in Florida, our example here was originally specified with Rosso Corsa paint over Tan leather along with five spoke modular alloy wheels, black painted brake calipers, electric seating, two tone dashboard, and a red tachometer face. Currently showing just under 9,500 miles, this example has recently received concours detailing throughout, along with new tires and an oil service.

Like the 550 Barchetta before it, the 575 Superamerica sold out quickly to Ferrari’s most valued clients. The ultimate iteration of the 550/575 model offerings, and the world’s fastest convertible in period. Here is a chance to acquire a low mileage example with recent service completed.

Offered with factory books, tools, car cover, original delivery accessories, two keys, and service documentation from new, this Ferrari 575 Superamerica is ready to be added to your collection and used immediately for a weekend getaway - top up or down.
