Having increased the engine size of the 365 GT4 to 5-litres in 1976, to produce the 512 BB, Ferrari continued to work on the evolution of its first mid-engined berlinetta. In 1981, the constructor abandoned the use of carburettors in favour of an injection system and the car became the 512 BBi. This new version, first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, produced 340 bhp, delivered in a more progressive and controlled fashion, making the car easier and nicer to drive. This exceptional engineering was shown off with a luxurious finish, including upholstery styled by Ermenegildo Zegna. Within three years this version was a great success, with 1007 examples sold. The model gave way to the extraordinary Testarossa in 1984.

The example on offer has an unusual history. The Russian client who bought the car new, had it registered without taking delivery, as he wished to give it to an acquaintance as a gift. However, this plan did not come to fruition, and the car remained with the dealer, without being driven, until 1984.
Put up for sale once more, it came to the attention of a haulier from Lugano. He used the car very little, parting with it in the 2000s, when it was acquired by our collector. He also used it sparingly (the odometer stands at 8 561 km) and this thoroughbred is thus presented in completely exceptional original condition, requiring servicing before use, to ensure that its potential can be fully enjoyed. The passenger compartment is as new, with impeccable grey-striped beige seats, and a dash displaying instruments with red numbers on a black background. The original plastic covers are still on the door sills.
On the exterior, the red paintwork presents no apparent faults and the wheels are free of knocks and marks. The front compartment, with bonnet opening in one piece with the wings, still houses the original toolkit, in its cover, itself in protective plastic. The car also comes with its documentation, original manuals and books in its folder.
It is extremely rare to come across this type of car with such low mileage and in such well-preserved condition. It is safe to say this must be one of the best 512 BBis currently on the market, possibly the best. Making this an opportunity that won't come round again soon.

The three Berlinetta Boxers that we are very happy to offer, come from an important collection in Switzerland.
Our enthusiast, passionate about Ferrari GTs, participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice in the early 2000s, after his father, who had driven a Porsche 917 at Le Mans.
He has tried to keep his cars in the best possible original condition. His professional obligations, which have become more and more important, do not allow him enough time to enjoy his cars he would like to and as they have hardly been used in recent years, they will need to be serviced.
