Description

The well-received and popular Ferrari 308 series was replaced in 1985 by the evolutionary 328. Pininfarina updated and smoothed the outgoing car’s styling, with the most obvious changes being a new front grille, form-fitting body-colored bumpers, and updated five-spoke wheels. The interior gained modernity without sacrificing style, and was given new seats, dashboard, door panels, and controls. The mid-mounted, four valve per cylinder V-8 engine was enlarged to 3.2 liters, pushing horsepower to 260 in US-specification cars.

Finished in classic Rosso Corsa (Racing Red) over a Beige leather interior, this US-specification 1988 Ferrari 328 GTB registered just 23,695 miles at the time of cataloguing. When the consignor saw this example, he was not planning on purchasing a 328, but its stunning condition won him over. The owner reports it remains highly original, and its quality was confirmed in 2018 at the Palm Beach Cavallino Classic, where it won a Platinum Award. When acquired by the consignor in 2017, the 328 had recently received a $15,000 major service by Brian Crall of Hill Country Ferrari Service in Lakeway, Texas.

This example is what 328 enthusiasts refer to as a 1988.5 model, featuring the cosmetic and mechanical improvements of the 1989 cars, yet retaining the less problematic non-ABS brakes. This is a high quality, platinum-award winning 328 that would be a welcome addition to any Ferrari collection.
