Description

"The 308 GTB was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1975 as a replacement for the 246 Dino. Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti, the man who styled some of the most iconic Ferraris including the Daytona, the new 308 was a rakish and attractive body which fused classic elements of Ferrari styling with a thoroughly modern design. For the first two years of production, the body of the 308 was produced in fibreglass, after which, steel was used. The 308 shared a similar tube frame chassis to the original Dino and 308 GT4; with four-wheel, double wishbone independent suspension. Although Ferrari had used fuel injection for a few his single-seater and sports racing cars, it had been considered too complex and precarious for use with road cars. As time went by, the technology improved until, in 1979, fuel injection was introduced on the 400GT. Perhaps the ousting of Weber artistry was inevitable not only from an engine development point of view, but also to help in meeting the increase demands of the legislators. Whatever the reasons, it became Ferrari policy to introduce fuel injection on all production models. For the 308, Ferrari chose to stay with the Bosch K-Jetronic system. It was available on the US specification 308s around the middle of 1980, but not until some months later on the European models. Along with the introduction of fuel injection, there was a switch to Marelli Digiplex electronic ignition system and the gearbox was modified. Outwardly, there was little to distinguish these cars from those that have gone before. The 'I' on the back denotes the use of injection and twin tailpipes either side of the silencer box, but this was not infallible as twin exhausts had also been used on high-performance options.
This Ferrari is one of the last of 233, righthand drive, 308 GTS QV's supplied by Maranello Concessionaires in Egham. Finished in Rosso Corsa with cream, piped in red, leather interior, this car was purchased by the current owners in 1999 and has covered just over 120,000 miles. While in this ownership, the Ferrari has been fully maintained by Mithril Racing Ltd, based at the Goodwood Racing Circuit and carefully used as a track experience car. The 308 was fitted with a rev. limiter and only driven under strict supervision. The car is accompanied by a service history and a stamped service book up to 1993, with Mithril Racing Ltd internal service records. The last work carried out on the car was in December 2018, when the cambelts were replaced. This very good and well looked after 1984 Ferrari 308 GTS QV is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in June 2020 and the original handbook wallet containing the original handbook and service book. This car presents the opportunity to purchase a good, well maintained Ferrari 308 GTS QV, which was made famous by the US television series Magnum PI.
