Description

One of 12 MM Spyders built with Vignale barchetta coachwork.

1st owner Alfonso de Portago

Together with Harry Schell, de Portago entered the 1000 km of Buenos Aires 1954 (2nd overall!) and the 12 hours of Sebring (DNF due to rear axle).
In 1954 the car changed hands twice and with owner H. Lively it raced at events like Watkins Glen and Road America and many airfield races which were so popular. He would keep the car until 1962. In 1970 well known Ferrari man Richard Merritt owned the car briefly. In 1971 it was restored by then owner Mr. J Brooks. Pictures and letters from him are on file.

It was then fitted with an engine from another 250 MM as he owned both of them!
In 1975 it was sold to another Ferrari guru Stan Nowak (invoice on file). After a few more owners it came back to Europe and participated in many races and events as the Mille Miglia. In 1995-1996 it participated in the official Ferrari Shell historic races around Europe and the Monaco GP Historique among others. In 1996-1997 it received an extensive engine overhaul in Germany. In 1998 it was sold to a Japanese collector and came to Holland in 2014.

The car comes with an extensive history file. Among others it comes a copy of the original invoice of merchandise from 1953 to Harry Schell.
The certificate d’origine from 16 December 1953 is also on file as is the foglio di montaggio..

It has now been inspected for certification and metal tests and dimension tests have been performed with positive result.

The car is in good and running condition but as it has not had much use in the past few years it will be serviced at the sale.

A truly fabulous piece of machinery. It would be a fantastic car to drive on one of the great car events.

Dutch (EEC) registered.

Listen to the sound of the 12 cilinders when changing gear!
