Registered for the first time on December 16, 1971, the Dino 246 GT that we are offering was, according to the book "Dino Compendium" by Matthias Bartz, manufactured in September 1971 and delivered new in Italy. However, it has on its plate the fact that it was imported by tablissements Charles Pozzi (on which, by mistake, the engine number appears identical to the chassis serial number). The current owner acquired the car in October 1982 from an industrialist specialized in the manufacturing of cables and who in turn had owned it since 1979. Since then several refurbishments have been carried out, beginning 1991 when it received a bare metal repaint, followed in 2002 by an operation to re-chrome the bumpers, the front section of which has a tube that was available as an option.
In 2003, the running gear was overhauled with a replacement of the ball joints, the rubber mounts and shock absorbers by Koni, and restoration of the wishbones. The exhaust and the clutch were also replaced at the same time. In 2006, the engine was restored in Italy, including a rebore, new forged pistons, conversion of the cylinder head to take on unleaded petrol with replacement valves, valve guides and seats. Connecting rod bearings and crankshaft have been replaced too, as well as the chains and seals, and the oil pump too received an overhaul. In 2007 the steering rack was replaced. The following year the carburetors were treated to an ultrasonic cleaning and re-tuned with gaskets replaced. This was followed by an engine oil change. The car comes with a folder of invoices reflecting the continuous maintenance by the current owner, and the counter now shows 97,909kms.
In "Rosso Chiaro," color, the bodywork has aged well and we have noted just a few small imperfections that have arisen with the passage of time. The black leather interior has been redone, the original dashboard has had the top recovered, the carpets and the doorlinings have also been redone. The car comes equipped with a circuit breaker.
This Dino 246 GT is in nice presentation, has a documented mechanical history and has the particular advantage of having a limited number of owners, the last owning it for over 30 years.
