In a world that has seen most American automakers, both major and minor, turn their attentions ever more solidly to alternative energy, Chrysler in all of its recent corporate guises has stood as a proud bulwark of performance, in particular under the Dodge and SRT labels.

Exactly when this madcap heritage began is hard to pinpoint, but one of the earliest such efforts was the Dodge RAM SRT/10, a RAM pickup truck in either Standard or Quad Cab form, with a Dodge Viper V-10 under the hood. This was an actual Viper mill with cast aluminum block, cast-iron cylinder liners, and cross-bolted main caps, delivering its 500 horsepower through an available six-speed manual transmission. Suspension was custom-tuned to handle the power, with Bilstein shock absorbers and a slightly lowered ride height, and unique muscular, more aerodynamic bodywork was fitted. Top speed was 154 mph, with acceleration from 0 to 60 mph possible in 4.9 seconds.

The RAM SRT/10 was produced for only three years. In 2005 it was offered in a Commemorative Edition, with a unique livery of Bright White with Electric Blue 'dual fang' stripes, standard 22-inch polished alloy wheels shod in Pirelli P Zero tires, brushed aluminum scuff plates, and a hard tonneau cover over a carpeted bed, as well as a leather interior with blue contrast stitching throughout, matching embroidered floor mats, and blue-lit gauges.

Just 200 examples of the Commemorative Edition were produced, of which that offered here being the 194th. Equipped with the six-speed transmission, six-disc CD changer, power windows and mirrors, climate control, and a console that folds to accommodate a third passenger, it had recorded 20,110 miles at the time of cataloging and is in very clean order, complete with books.

This is still one of the fastest trucks around!
