The first De Tomaso Pantera L (for Lusso) were built with certain parts from the first generations, such as the beautiful dashboard with separate counters or the small chrome bumpers, later supplanted by imposing black plastic overriders. Thus, purists have a habit of calling this transition model "Pre-L".
The car on offer, which left the factory in October 1971, is one of them. It features a rare "Medium green" color that only 57 units would have had at the time. The car was previously repainted in its original color, while the engine cover was painted black. The black leatherette interior seems original, as does the dashboard, which is not cracked. The odometer, which displays 22,531 miles, testifies to a car intended for the American market and seems in line with the low wear of the upholstery. The engine benefited from a repair by Tuuma cid company, a Finnish V8 specialist. It starts well and is well tuned, our test drive revealed that the brakes will need to be serviced and the clutch guard adjusted. For the rest, the acceleration is impressive and the sound of the V8 exceptional, so much so that one begins to wonder which Italian berlinetta promises the same sensations in this price range, without finding an equivalent. The muscular line and the superb dashboard of the first versions convince you that the Pantera is a more than a judicious choice.
