Gottlieb Daimler, a pioneer of the automobile industry, gave rise to two separate companies that bore his name: the German enterprise that he founded and an English branch created by F.R.Simms in 1895 to build engines and automobiles under the Daimler licence in the UK. Towards the end of the 1920s, Daimler hired Laurence Pomeroy, who designed an overhead valve engine available in several six and eight-cylinder versions that were more modern and efficient than the outdated valveless blocks. The Daimler range therefore became quite varied, with six-cylinder 15hp and various eight-cylinder engines through to the prestigious " Double-Six " V12 engine. Clients could also choose from different chassis lengths.
