It is not only all fun and games when designing a trailblazing car. Citroën found that out for itself in the ’40s and early ’50s. The main question was how to equal or even better the Traction Avant. On the 5th October 1955, the moment of truth had come when Citroën presented the DS 19 at the Paris Autosalon. That Citroën had done her homework became evident when at the end of the two-week show some 80,000 orders had been placed. Never before had so many models been sold so quickly. It took another 60 years before Tesla broke that record! It was not just the public that was enthusiastic, the press could not get enough this piece of French genius. The DS in her 3 guises remained in production for an astonishing 20 years and sold 1,455,746 examples. That was absolutely a gigantic sales success for its time. Our DS 20 was originally registered in France on the 17th July 1970 and arrived in The Netherlands in 2010. The car is in great condition. The bodywork has nice and thin, correctly aligned panel work that, naturally, is completely rust-free. On a summers day, you can open the perfectly working sunroof. The grey paintwork is in very good condition with only a few minor blemishes. The Burgundy red interior trim, as well as all the switches and instruments, are in a wonderful condition. Both the upholstery and carpets show no wear and tear. Looking at the recent invoices, it is no wonder that this car drives as if it were new. In 2019 the previous owner spent an impressive € 25,000 improving the car’s mechanics. The result is obvious for all to see, it drives wonderfully well. The engine runs smoothly as does the transmission which has no play whatsoever.
