Description

Chassis No. 34B1786

Introduced in 1934 and produced since in over a dozen generations, the Chevrolet Suburban is the longest-lived automotive nameplate currently in production. At its introduction it was the first all-metal-bodied station wagon, although it was marketed more as a utility truck than as a dual-purpose wagon, and could be considered the predecessor of the modern sport utility vehicle – something that further cemented its place in history.

The 1946 Suburban was the only year that the prewar 1941-generation design was produced after the war. Jim Taylor's model was acquired in St. Louis in 2004. Known in Chevrolet nomenclature as a style no. 3116, it is a two-door model with a distinctive two-piece horizontal tailgate that forecast the later design of the famed Chevrolet Nomad.

Based mechanically on the AK series truck chassis of the same period, it is equipped with the famous 'Stovebolt' overhead-valve six-cylinder engine and three-speed manual transmission, as well as vacuum wipers and Chevrolet Super Deluxe heater. Finishes under the hood are all original and very nicely detailed. Its interior features a 60/40 front seat as well as second and third row seating, all in vinyl, while the wood floor is believed to be the refinished original; genuine wood trim is also used as garnish around the windows, an especially attractive touch. Presentation throughout is high-quality with some minor age, while the car has traveled minimally since restoration, showing 203 miles on the odometer at the time of cataloging.

An excellent, thoroughly attractive, and very rare, seldom-seen Suburban in perfect colors, this is a truly classic American truck. It is equally suitable for liverying to promote one's business, as an airport shuttle for a hotel or bed-and-breakfast, or simply for enjoying with the family at one's summer home. Everyone who sees it is sure to love it!
