Description

"The 1958 Chevrolet Impala was produced by General Motors during a time when American automobiles were becoming larger, more powerful and more flamboyant. The Impala was part of the Chevrolet Bel Air line and was introduced as a top-of-the-line model for the 1958 model year. The car was available in several body styles, including two-door pillarless coupé, four-door saloon, two-door convertible, and station wagon.
The 1958 Impala featured a sleek, sculpted design with prominent tail fins, which were a hallmark of 1950s automotive styling. The car was powered by a range of V8 engines, including a high-performance 348 cubic inch engine, which produced up to 315hp. This made the Impala one of the most powerful cars of its time.
The 1958 Impala was also notable for its luxurious interior, which featured plush seats, chrome accents, and a full range of gauges and controls. It was a popular car among drivers who valued both style and performance, and it remains a highly sought-after classic car today. It is very hard to determine how many of these first year two-door Impalas are in the U.K. but this example is surely one of the very best in the country, if not globally.
This particular example is presents in absolutely fabulous condition throughout and has been a winner at multiple events. The car was even displayed on the Goodwood Festival of Speed Cartier lawn, which speaks volumes about its condition. The odometer is showing just a little over 13,000 miles and our vendor is quite confident that this could be the true mileage. Our vendor has owned this Impala since 2006 and it was in exactly this condition when he first purchased it in America all those years ago. He stripped the 283ci engine down upon arrival to the U.K. but found the internals of the engine in quite astonishing condition, which added to his confidence that the mileage could be true.
The car is presented in the absolutely superb colour of Chevrolet Tropic Turquoise with a white roof and lashings of chrome. The interior is also immaculately presented in Tropic Turquoise and really does need to be seen in the flesh to be fully appreciated.
All of the original period books and brochures are present and the vendor has painstakingly sourced numerous original under bonnet stickers, which are yet to be fitted. This car is ready to be taken to shows and would be able to compete for regular prizes, as it has done for the past 15 years with our vendor. This may be the best 1958 Impala available for some time.
