Description

Transmission: 4 gears, Automatic
Registration number: CH-19-40

The Corvette C2 is gaining in popularity in large steps. That is totally justified, the granddaddy of Muscle Cars has everything a classic car needs: beautiful lines, a powerful engine, universally known with a name that continued from its predecessor to its successor. No small wonder this C2 is being more appreciated. The coupé we have here is also loaded with lots of desirable extras.

The Corvette you see here was originally supplied in Anniston, Alabama. The first owner was handed the keys to his Rally Red (code 974) and Red Vinyl (code 407) Corvette on the 30th June 1967. We are eternally grateful to that first owner for a number of things. To start with he deserves a bottle of our finest wine for keeping everything together with the car. The original guarantee book including the seldom seen Project-O-Plate containing important information for the dealership. The delivery note with extensive information, detailing the extras and even the price. We can therefore tell you he paid the princely sum of $ 5,395.75 for his C2, which is a bit more than the $ 4,353.- basic due to a number of very desirable optional extras. This C2 has air-conditioning, Powerglide transmission, the driver has views through tinted glass as well as a AM/FM radio and power assisted steering. The Corvette left the showroom floor clad in special red-stripe 775X15X4 tyres.
A very fully loaded car in other words both in material as document sense. We gather from (hand) written letters and documents the car was fully restored back in 1980. This was not to rectify accidental damage but just to restore the C2 back to its former glory. Since the restoration the Corvette has mainly been used on a recreational base. The car has now been residing in Europe for some years where the excellent care and attention has continued. A two inch thick file containing many invoices relating to mechanical maintenance, refreshing the air-conditioning and regular servicing is present.

No wonder we can be concise in describing the state of the bodywork. It is outstanding. The paintwork is brilliant with the sharp lines and neat seams ensure a very fine presence. The chrome-work too gleams brightly. The wheels are as good as new with subtle whitewalls. The white tyres banding being the only difference present from its original appearance in 1967.
Inside is also quite alluring. The reupholstered red vinyl is in peak shape. The seats sit as the should. Once behind the wheel you have view of the C2 Corvette’s wonderful dashboard. 60’s Americana cannot be better represented than by this dashboard. Colourful, exuberant and totally in step with the exterior: in one word splendid. A heap of gauges distributed over the instrument panel behind the large thin steering wheel. Additional information can be obtained in the centre console where you will also fine the radio and air-conditioning controls. Closer to you knee you will find the Powerglide transmission, The automatic 2-speed gearbox with manual override is totally suited to the Corvette. In the 60’s the sports driver may have preferred the manual box, these days the automatic makes for very pleasant cruising. Do not fear a lack of sportiveness; the Powerglide has even been used in races. No worries there if you want to test her metal.

Driving the C2 is one big party. The experience, the powerful 300 hp 327 cubic inch engine, its handling, literally nothing is boring or mundane. The only hum-drum remark we could think off is the C2’s condition: everything about this car is very sound and good. It has been recently fully service so all you need to do is start and off you go to enjoy!
