Description

Unique to the US market, the Bavaria established BMW as a true competitor in the high-performance sedan market – alongside Mercedes-Benz.

Discovered in static storage in 2018 and acquired from long-term single family ownership, this 1971 Bavaria is exceptionally well preserved with its factory upholstery, radio, etched glass, and trim intact. The wheels are date-coded and the original accessories are present and correct. The interior has been nicely preserved, and it appears only the exterior paint has been refinished. The original California blue plates, which accompany the car, denote “PAT UK” for its previous owner Pat Manning, and adding to its time-warp charisma, the front bumper and windows bear the decals denoting Manning’s service at various military bases across the US. In fall 2019, this Bavaria was subject to an engine rebuild and mechanical refurbishment, receiving new rings, bearings, seals, gaskets, water pump, ignition components, hoses, filters, and a reconditioned radiator. The current mileage reads just over 70,000.

This original Bavaria is accompanied by its repair and owner’s manuals, as well as tool kit, jack, and accessories. Rare for its model and highly original condition, this BMW has benefited from decades of dedicated stewardship, and is ideal for touring, rallies, club meets, and display.
