Description

The BMW 2002 Race Car offered here at Autostorico is a 1972 registered example finished in Warsteiner livery of Black over Gold. Simon Diffey a well-known historic racing driver was the brains behind ‘Gold Member’ as the car has been nicknamed. He acquired the car as a rolling shell from BMW specialist BM Texhnika. Diffey wanted to build a 2002 to European Group One ‘all steel, all glass’ specification that he could race with his son. Having undergone a full cosmetic restoration attention then passed to the mechanical components including the engine which came from Snitzer, with a reconditioned Lester Owen head from Historic BMW specialist Laranca. Mass racing completely re-built the engine, which proved to be very competitive producing 200bhp, and during Diffey’s ownership the car was maintained to the highest possible standard.

In 2014 the car was invited to compete at the 72nd Goodwood Members Meeting, driven by motor racing legend Jochen Mass. It is eligible for numerous events including the ‘Masters 70s Celebration’, the Classic Sports Car Club Super Saloons, and ‘Legends Historic Touring Car Challenge’.
Supplied with a history file including a current V5 registration certificate, numerous invoices and other related material.

Viewing strictly by appointment only.
