This wonderful 1964 Austin Mini Cooper S left the factory in January 1964 directly en route to Sweden. A few years ago the famous Swedish motorbike racer, Erik Börje Jansson, completely and expertly restored this Mini. A full record was kept, including every receipt. The level of expertise was such that it made a number of Swedish car magazines. This is the kind of expert restoration that years later is still very much in evidence. The paintwork is still lovely and this Mini’s underside is in concourse condition.

The Mark I Mini (1959 to 1967) was the first Mini built by the British Motor Corporation, BMC for short. The first generation of the Mini was characterised by the sliding side windows, the external

door hinges and its moustached shaped grill. In the United Kingdom the Mark I was produced between 1959 and 1967,. The Mini Mark I was sold under both Austin and Morris marque names.

Sir Alec Issigonis’ friend en Formula 1 constructor, John Cooper, soon after its introduction realised the Mini’s basic ingredients were all there and very suitable for transformation for racing and rallying purposes. In 1961 Cooper added mechanically, sports-inspired, adjustments to the little English creation. And so the Mini Cooper was born!

Cooper's development of the British Motor Corporation Mini, the Mini Cooper, was adored by both rally drivers as well as the normal road going public. The MorrisMini Cooper S with its 1071 cc would be the precursor for an even faster and now legendary version. The little Mini would form the foundation of a car that when it came to international rallies would surprise everything and everyone, winning the Monte Carlo Rally first in 1964 going on to repeat that success in ‘65,’66 and ‘67.

Did you know the Cooper S version was also used by a number of British forces and the Australian Traffic police forces as a plainclothes car?

A more powerful Mini Cooper, dubbed the "S", was developed in tandem and released in 1963. Featuring a 1,071 cc (1.1 L; 65.4 cu in) engine and larger disc brakes, 4,030 Cooper S's were produced and sold until the 1071 model was discontinued in August 1964. That makes our Mini absolutely singular.

The Mini Cooper S became the most appealing of all Mini’s during the 41 years of the Classic Mini’s existence.

Our car is a light-blue Mini Cooper S with a “Snowberry White” roof and original Minilight rims. It has lovely light-blue interior trim accents, as well as bucket seats and a John Cooper Motolita steering wheel. There is 87,000 km on the clock. This is no wolf in sheep's clothes but rather an absolute sweetie in sheep’s clothes. Don’t be fooled however by the car’s high cuddle factor, this car is more than capable to take it up against far larger and powerful cars!
