We have an absolutely unique one-owner London Cab. The story goes like this: In the 80’s this LHD cab was originally supplied to the Netherlands from new for a chaps 50th birthday. He has kept the car as the one and only owner for over 35 years. It is a Carbodies FX4R, the successor to the FX4, whereby R stands for Rover. Carbodies acquired ownership from Austin in 1982 for the Taxi, after Austin lost interest in production. The FX4R has a number of improvements in comparison to the FX4. It now was fitted with power steering, and ABS. The really remarkable fact behind this cab is that in the early 80’s it was part of six-car order by an Arabian Sheik. The cabs were personalised with the addition of aircon, partition wall, a luxury seat with 3 folding seats, separate passenger aircon and a 5-speed manual petrol engine. At the end of day the Sheik only bought 5 of the 6. This cabs last owner was looking for a reliable classic car that would last at least 15 years. This was how the idea arose to buy a London Cab, a car with a classic appearance with fairly modern and reliable technology. Around his 50th birthday they contacted the Carbodies Taxi and Hire Car Company. The car available, at a discount, was the LHD FX4R, cancelled by the Arabian Sheik. This car was enjoyed for 35 years instead of the initial expectation of 15 years! As the car was always parked at his second house it has only clocked up 19,000 km!
