With the DBS Aston Martin said goodbye to the Carrozzeria Touring designed shape of the DB4,5 and 6. Shaper lines more suited to the 70’s and updated technology are employed to keep Aston Martin at the top of the luxury sports car market.
Aston Martin developed the car to fit an eight-cylinder, although initially the well-known DB6’s 4-litre six-cylinder somewhat tuned was used. Two years later the 5,340 cc powerful V8 became available developing 324 hp and 450 Nm. From mid-1972 the DBS is renamed simply as the V8 and in 1973 the Series 3 was introduced by Aston Martin. Housing four Weber carburettors necessitated a bulging bonnet.

The series 3 sporting that fantastic high-air inlet is the one we have on offer here. It is in prime condition and has a colour scheme to die for. The car was initially supplied from new in Philadelphia, where the first owner brilliantly choose an Imperial Blue paintwork and natural coloured leather interior.

This English sportscar looks great with very fine bodywork and details. The paintwork is nice and fresh and has a deep lustre and whilst the colour is Imperial Blue, in certain lights, it has a warm greenish hue. We fully understand why the first owner chooses this shade. The brightwork is characterised by a fresh mirroring shine, all rubbers are in a fine state without any sign of parish. The V8’s line is timeless beauty; a long bonnet, small window pillars and a sloping rear end.

The English character is immediately obvious when you open the door. Posh, top quality tan leather, lovely gauges and switch gear and similar finish on the door cards and carpets. The interior is in very healthy shape and shows off its age in a nice way. It exudes the right atmosphere inside the Aston’s cabin. And whilst we are on the subject of breathing, the V8 has air-conditioning which is always a bonus. The centre console features the handle for the 3-speed automatic transmission. The gearbox shows the Am’s two sides: that of a luxury GT as well as tempting the driver to test its quite sporty driving capabilities. Once you have kicked the V8 into life you probably, as we do, want for nothing else.

Driving the V8 you cannot escape the impression this is one heck of a car. A brute that can cope with much but also allows you to drive it sedately. The car feels sturdy, nothing feels feeble or lightweight. This is the type of car that ensure a side-to-side grin on lovely long trips. In short all aspects of this coupe, being acceleration, handling and braking are all in great order. Mechanically this car is excellent, meaning this is one Brit that won't muck up your pleasure on long journeys.
Overall this is a magnificent and very good Aston Martin V8 with a rare finish and in exceptional condition.
We doubt very much we need to tell you that once you turn the ignition key and hear the V8’s gorgeous exhaust note, you will be won over.
