Description

Chassis No. SCFAE62313K800073

As some of the world's leaders in irresistible design, it is no surprise that another desirable pairing between exquisite Italian coachbuilders Zagato and British sports-car specialists Aston Martin would yield such attractive results. This beautiful roadster variant was created by Carrozzeria Zagato specially for the American market which attracted buyers with a larger front grill, steeply raked windshield, widened rear fenders, and of course the iconic 'double bubble' tribute courtesy of the raised headrest fairings behind the seats. True to its name, the "American Roadster 1" was indeed a true roadster, with only an emergency tonneau cover provided to protect the cabin while parked. Collectors showed immediate interest with all 99 examples quickly selling out after the AR1 was unveiled at the 2003 LA Auto Show.

To help combat the homologation issues that prevented Aston Martin from offering the DB7 Zagato coupe in the American market, the DB AR1 utilized the existing DB7 Volante chassis to overcome type approval issues. Power comes courtesy of a naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12 producing 435-horsepower. It is no surprise that collectors showed a preference in ordering the six-speed manual transmission over the optional five-speed automatic transmission that was also offered.

A truly bespoke example, this Aston Martin was finished in a custom Mercedes-Benz Designo Silver exterior over a hand-stitched Forest Green Bridge of Weir leather interior. The interior features electronically controlled, quilted leather seats that are in excellent condition thanks to the incredibly low 4,274 miles showing at the time of cataloging. A true work of art, even the trunk features quilted leather and deep pile carpeting, while also housing the bespoke umbrellas originally provided. This ultra-rare Aston Martin is a beautiful representation of a relationship that has been around for decades and continues to excite collectors worldwide.
