"If you want a truly British driver's car, the ultimate development of a continuous line of thoroughbreds from the Vintage era to the present day, there is nothing in quite the same field as the Aston." – Motor magazine on the DB6, 26th November 1966.

The Aston Martin DB6 was launched at the London and Paris Motor Shows in 1965. Although recognisably related to the Carrozzeria Touring-styled DB4, which had founded this particular line back in 1958, the DB6 abandoned its predecessors' Touring-designed Superleggera body framework, adopting a conventional steel fabrication clad, as previously, in aluminium panels. The wheelbase was now 4" longer than before, resulting in an extensive re-style with more-raked windscreen, raised roofline, and reshaped rear quarter windows. Opening front quarter-lights made a reappearance but the major change was at the rear where a Kamm tail improved the aerodynamics. Although apparently a bigger car than its predecessors, the weight of the new model was in fact only fractionally increased.

Tested in the racing DBR2 before its production debut in the DB4, Aston's twin-cam six had been enlarged to 3,995cc for the preceding DB5 and remained unchanged with power output on triple SU carburettors rated at 282bhp.

In the summer of 1969 the Mark 2 DB6 was announced in saloon and Volante convertible versions. Distinguishable by its flared wheelarches and DBS wheels, the Mark 2 came with power-assisted steering as standard and could be ordered with AE Brico electronic fuel injection. Only 245 DB6 Mark 2 saloons were made.

A five-speed manual transmission model, '4136/R' was retailed via Plough Motors (Stroud Valley) Ltd and was originally finished in Roman Purple with black interior trim. The original owner is not recorded. Accompanying AMOC records show that the DB6 was owned from at least 1988 until 2006 by a Mr J Sharman of Kent, passing to Mr Peter Burman of West Sussex in 2007 at the Bonhams Aston Martin Sale (lot 211) and to the current vendor (via Aston Workshop) in June 2009 when it was exported. According to the previous Bonhams description, the car was painted in its current maroon colour circa 1975, and that the engine was rebuilt around a new cylinder block in circa 1981. The Aston has been on static display since acquisition and will require re-commissioning before further use. Accompanying documentation consists of copies of the following: the guarantee form; a green continuation logbook; an expired MoT (2008-2009); and the last V5C Registration Certificate.
