Introduced in 1950, the DB2 Drophead Coupe – with its fashionable allaluminum body, highly tuned twin-cam straight six, and peerless reputation among sports car enthusiasts – was one of the most exclusive sports cars money could buy. All told, 102 examples were built, of which approximately 76 were specified in left-hand drive for export markets.

This rare left-hand-drive example was ordered new via British Motor Car Distributors of San Francisco. Finished in cream with green leather upholstery and a gray top, it was delivered on February 2, 1953, to Earl S. Fenston of Sausalito, California. Mr. Fenston, a surgeon who had an affinity for motorcycles and sports cars, reportedly displayed his new Aston Martin at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® in 1953. According to an article in the Daily Independent Journal of San Rafael, California, dated April 20, 1953, this charming Drophead Coupe “received a 1st in class in the Two Seat Sports Car over $4,500 class.” A true badge of honor for any vehicle owner.

While little is known of the Aston Martin’s whereabouts in the years since that showing, the Drophead Coupe is believed to have remained in the US throughout its life. It was recently discovered in a Wisconsin garage, partially disassembled for restoration and housed in a collection with two other early Aston Martins.

One of the finest and most highly regarded sports cars of its era, this Aston Martin DB2 Drophead Coupe could be an ideal project to restore and return to Pebble Beach over 60 years after its debut there.
