Description

Guide price: £40000 - £45000.

Prepared to FIA Appendix K (Period F 1962-65) Class GTS10 spec

FIA HTP papers expired in 2017 to be renewed by next owner

The large history file includes invoices indicating significant expenditure

Eligible for many race series

UK registered and supplied with a UK V5c - very versatile and potential entrant for classic tours

Alfa Romeo introduced the Giulia Spider in June 1962, being a development of the Giulietta Spider but now with a 1,570cc engine and 5-speed gearbox. The Spider bodies were designed and built by Pininfarina in Turin and the cars assembled by Alfa Romeo in Milan. The Veloce version used twin Weber carburettors and hotter camshafts than the Normale to produce around 129bhp.

This car, chassis number AR390445 (Type 101.18 Veloce), was manufactured on 20th April 1965 and sold to Alfa Romeo Germany, Frankfurt.

In 1996, AR390445 was converted into a race car by Dr R Schimmer of Dusseldorf, since when it has competed in races throughout Europe including Spa, Zolder, Zandvoort, Brno, Hockenheim, and the Nordschleife where it took 9th overall out of 185 entrants in the Eifelklassik. The car was also taken to a win at Monza in the 2010 Coppa Intereuropa, starting from the very back of the grid, following problems in practice.

The date expired fuel cell, race seat and belts were removed and replaced with a, hard to source standard fuel tank, reclining seats and driver and passenger belts by the current owner whose intention was to use the car for classic tours. The non-racing owner has decided it would be a shame to waste this well developed and set up car on his own limited abilities and wants the car to be enjoyed by someone with the skill to exploit the car's undoubted continuing potential!
