They still are such automotive masterpieces. This 1946 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport is a beautifully decked out car. Its full name is an Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport Cabriolet. Whilst most car manufacturers had to switch to military production in the 2nd WW, Mussolini ordered Alfa Romeo specifically to continue its car production. Mussolini’s idea was that Alfa Romeo would be able to show off its cars to the greater glory of his fascist regime. It was just one more example of his megalomaniac flights of fancy. That does not diminish the fact that immediately after the war Alfa Romeo were able to present this brilliant model.

In the past this car has been fully restored and mechanically overhauled. The work was carried out to an exception standard as well as in keeping with the original script. The panels aligns beautifully. The doors shut nicely and brightwork too is in very good shape and correctly fixed to the bodywork. The car has lovely black sprayed wire wheels. The wheels are shod in good and correctly sized tyres. The light brown hood is in very good condition and closes perfectly. There is also a light brown tonneau cover to match naturally.

The inside of this Alfa Romeo forms a lovely contrast to its exterior and is of course in peak condition. The 6C’s interior has red carpets ad red leather seats. The carpets have been expertly fitted and are in good condition. The seats have been also been expertly reupholstered in keeping with the original concept and are supple and in very good shape. The original steering wheel and the gear knob have perfectly preserved. The instrument cluster and switching gear look great and are in good working order. They present a picture not replicated in our modern cars.

The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 has a 2.5 litre straight-six with a 4-speed manual gearbox. The 6C is a Grand Tourer in every aspect. This is therefore especially a torquier type of car whilst enjoying the pleasant rumble of a smooth running engine. It is such a joy to travel in this car, clocking up the miles in peace and comfort. The engine manages to produce 90 Ps, which was quite formidable for the time and with this it is able to waft the car forwards in an effortless fashion. As stated the engine has been fully reconditioned. Recent major servicing saw the brakes fully replaced, the brake light switch replaced, the ignition and carburettor both either replaced or reconditioned, a new inner tube given to the spare tyre, the differential reconditioned, a new exhaust fitted and the choke modified. With all that work it will not come as any surprise that this Alfa handles beautifully with both brakes and clutch being precisely responsive. The suspension has been adjusted to provide a comfortable ride and has good springs and shock breakers.

The car comes with an invoice detailing recent work. This beautiful 1946 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport Cabriolet with its stunning looks and good mechanical health is good for many more years of pleasurable touring.
