Description

When the 2600 Spider was launched at the 1962 Geneva Auto Show, featuring Carrozzeria Touring coachwork, it was immediately recognized as the new star in the Alfa Romeo stable. The coachbuilt Alfa featured an all-alloy 2.6-liter three-carb engine coupled with a smooth-shifting five-speed gearbox, providing the elegant open Spider with plenty of power for effortless, long-distance touring. As the last of a long line of twin-cam, six-cylinder offerings, the 2600 Spider also became historically significant when production ceased in 1968, and has since become a collector’s item among Alfisti.

This gorgeous example is fresh from restoration. The current owner, a gentleman with a passion for rare Italian sports cars, purchased this 2600 Spider in November 2012 from Neal Berger of New Jersey. Over the past year, Alfa Performance Connection, a respected marque specialist based in Orange, California, restored the Spider to a high overall standard. Today, it sports striking new gray paint, new chrome, new soft top, and a fresh interior – including door panels, dash top, carpet, and seats – trimmed in Oxblood Red, which serves as a wonderful contrast to the subdued exterior.

The 2600 Spider is surely one of the most appealing open GT cars of its era. In true Alfa Romeo tradition, these cars are exquisitely engineered, enjoyable to drive, and relatively easy to maintain. This well-restored and very smart-looking example is a prime candidate for any number of motoring events and could serve as a fun weekend runabout.
