Description
Alfa Romeo intended the 2000 Spider to serve as a comfortable, long-distance touring car – a luxurious companion to the Giulietta Spider. Powered by a 113 hp twin-cam inline four, the 2000 Spider featured a five-speed gearbox and stylish coachwork by Touring of Milan. In total, Alfa Romeo built just 3,443 examples of the 2000 Spider before the updated 2600 model was introduced for 1962.
The 2000 Spider offered here is a fantastic time capsule recently discovered in single family ownership. A US-market model, identified by its distinctive bonnet scoop and side trim, this Alfa Romeo was sold new to Walter Downhower of La Cañada, California. He drove the car occasionally through 1977, then parked it with just over 12,000 miles on the odometer. Recently acquired by the consignor, this long-hidden 2000 Spider remains in remarkably undisturbed original condition, with factory finishes inside and out. Finished in the classic red-over-black color scheme, the Alfa Romeo retains its Carrozzeria Touring body tag, California black plates, and matching-numbers engine, as confirmed by the original data tag affixed to the firewall. Rarely seen accessories, including the factory toolbox, jack, key fob, owner’s manual, warranty card, dealer directory, and shop manual are included with the sale.
Following a sympathetic mechanical recommissioning, this Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider would be an ideal choice for preservation class display; it is surely among the finest surviving examples of this rare breed.
