Description

  • Offered from 23 years of single ownership
  • Comprehensively restored by marque specialists in the UK and Italy
  • Just over 6,000 km covered since restoration
  • Early and stunning example of Touring’s 2000 Spider

Introduced at the 1957 Turin Auto Show, the Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider is arguably one of the most iconic cars ever produced by Alfa Romeo or Carrozzeria Touring. With a price tag only 100,000 lire larger than the Berlina, the short-wheelbase Spider represented grand touring in its finest form. Powered by a 112-bhp 1,975-cc inline four-cylinder engine, it outsold its closed sibling by nearly 600 units.

Although not much is known of this specific 2000 Spider’s life in America, we know that it was delivered new through Max Hoffman’s famous New York dealership in March of 1959 and that it spent time in Louisiana, as a sticker that left an imprint on the windshield prior to restoration suggests. According to customs documents accompanying the car’s history file, it was imported to the UK by David Kaufman of London in 1989, who probably took it apart for a nut-and-bolt restoration which never took place. Still dismantled, the car was purchased by the current owner in 1996 as a restoration project

It underwent a complete restoration by specialists Andrew Thorogood in London and Paolo Bergia in Pinerolo, Turin, where painstaking attention to originality was paid. Amazingly, during the restoration no rust was found, and no major metalwork was needed. Further work has been carried out between 2006 and 2011 to ensure a perfect condition throughout. The car was refinished in the quintessential colour of Rosso Alfa, and the seats were trimmed in leather instead of the original leatherette.

Having covered just over 6,000 km km since the completion of the restoration, this gorgeous coachbuilt Alfa Romeo is a wonderful opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable and lesser known Spiders from the years of ‘La Dolce Vita’.

• 23 Jahre in aktuellem Besitz
