Description

1965 Alfa Romeo GTA 1600

History: The Alfa Romeo GTA was a purpose-built competition car which competed in and won the European Touring Car Championship and the USA Trans AM Championship. 500 examples were produced in Stradale and Corsa configuration. They were unique with full aluminum body work, plexiglass windows and the use of magnesium wherever possible to lighten the cars. On this car, original documents show delivery when new to French Alfa Romeo dealer Fernand Maria, who after preparation by Virgile Conrero, raced it privately in events like La Ronde Cevenole and Le Rallye Des Lyons. It was then sold to Rene Ricord, the brother of Jacques Ricord, an Alfa Romeo tuner in Grace, France. The GTA was then acquired by Louis Chretien, who raced it with his son. Mr. Chretien sold it in the late 1970’s to John Broadman, an American living in Paris. The car was restored in the mid 1980’s by Rudy Pas of Belgium. It was featured in the 1986 issue of Auto Week Magazine. After more than 20 years of ownership, Mr. Broadman sold the car to Mark Leonard of Grand Prix Classics in La Jolla, CA, who then sold it to GTA expert Scott Gray. In 2005, Scott Gray stripped the car to its bare chassis and restored it to its current state using all the proper Autodelta racing parts. He then sold it to current owners Francois and Marlies Castaing. All owners are known and documented from new.

Condition: A bare shell nut and bolt restoration completed in 2005 by Alfa Romeo GTA expert Scott Gray. In addition to beautiful paint and body, it had a complete mechanical rebuild of engine, gear box, differential, brakes, suspension. This outstanding example has all the rare Corsa parts. Then after 10 years of vintage racing, it was repainted in 2015. And all the unique Stradale parts are all there. Complete interior, grab handles, interior lights, heater, wiper motor. A wonderful example with all the rare parts in excellent condition.

Of Note: A Stradale with rare Corsa parts, mag bell housing, close ratio gear box, limited slip differential with (4.56) ratio Campagnolo wheels, plexiglass windows. The ownership is known from new and well documented. Race history in its early years. All the rare parts are there. Outstanding restoration. Ready to drive.
