Description
Maico called its Maicoletta, introduced in 1955, the “most powerful German scooter”. Equipped with a telescopic fork, a 4-speed gearbox and Bosch electric starter, the Maicoletta was available with two stroke engines of 177 two 277cc. The cranky scooter was very modern in its time and luxuriously equipped but also rather expensive, certainly the reason why the sales expectations of the manufacturers were not fulfilled. Our example, with a 250cc engine and 13.5 hp, was customs cleared in Basel on the 13th February 1957 and registered for the first time in May of the same year. The carefully completed lock book showing 7’395 kilometres until 1964 clearly indicates that the first owner cherished his Maicoletta. Later on, the scooter was most probably stored for a very long period until, in 1988, it was acquired by the vendor. He restored the Maico around 25 years ago but only drove it very sparingly. Since receiving the cherished Veterans status in May 2009 only 700 kilometres were driven with the cult scooter. With now 9’500 kilometres driven the Maicoletta is in good condition with age correct signs of use. The last veteran MOT was completed in June 2022.
