A tribute to Hans J. Wegner, the ‘Master of the Chair’

A pioneer of Danish modern design and commonly considered to be the ‘Master of the Chair’, the architect Hans J. Wegner has designed over 500 seats in his lifetime. One of his earliest designs will now be reissued at Carl Hansen & Sons…

The wooden chair named ‘CH22’ belonged in Hans J. Wegner’s debut design series, with which he launched his career in the 1940s. While the more recognisable ‘Wishbone Chair’ from the same series is widely regarded as one of the great design classics, and successfully sold around the world to this day, the wooden lounge chair has not been seen for several years. That changes with Carl Hansen & Sons’ ‘CH22’ reissue, which is available in five different wood variations. In addition, the brand will also sell a reissue of Wegner’s ‘CH24’ dining-room chairs, which should be available to buy in May 2016.
