Coys at Royal Horticultural Halls, London 4th December 2008 – Preview
One of the highlights of Coys’ forthcoming December sale is this 1970 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’. Estimated at £145,000 - 170,000, the Blu Scuro car – with desirable ‘Plexiglass’ nose – has covered just 21,000 miles from new.
The ‘Daytona’ is one of eight Ferraris in the 54-car catalogue and sits alongside the underrated 1974 Ferrari 365 GTC/4 (£52,000 - 55,000) and an elegant, understated black/black 1960 Ferrari 250 GT Pininfarina Coupé. 'Refer Dept.’, please, for the price on the latter.
In addition to the cars from Maranello, there’s a good selection from arch-rivals Lamborghini. This is headed by the 1968 Miura P400, to ‘S’ specification, estimated at £220,000 - 250,000. Three, smaller-engined Lamborghinis (a Jalpa, an Urraco and a Silhouette) join the Miura, and the marque presence is completed by two big V-12s: a 1990 Countach Anniversary (£40,000 - 50,000) and a 1999 Diablo SV Roadster (£65,000 - 85,000).

1992 Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evolution 16V Turbo 4WD - £7,000 - 10,000
It’s not all Italiana, however. As usual, Coys has several distinguished pre-War British cars. ‘Derby’ Bentleys are stylish, and the handsome 1934 Bentley 3.5 Litre Two Door Coupé by Thrupp & Maberly (£40,000 - 48,000) looks good in its Black over Dove Grey paintwork. There are also several Rolls-Royces, including two restoration projects and a 1927 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Sedanca Coupé, for £85,000 - 105,000, that has appeared in several films including Singin' In the Rain.
Other cars of note include the 1972 BMW 3.0 CSL (£19,000 - 22,000), a RHD 1966 Iso Rivolta GT (£12,000 - 16,000, pictured above) and the ‘Refer Dept.’ 1965 Alfa Romeo TZ1.
1963 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Fixedhead Coupe - £30,000 - 40,000
1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS - £100,000 - 110,000
To provide variety in depth, the sale also has a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS for £100,000 - 110,000 and several sporting Jaguars. The BRG 1963 E-type Series 1 Fixed Head Coupé looks an attractive car for £30,000 - 40,000, and we like FHC XK120s; the ‘Fast Road Specification’ silver 1953 example with its 5-speed Getrag ‘box and considerably tuned engine - estimated at £50,000 - 60,000 - appearing a discreet, potent machine.
1953 Jaguar XK 120 Fixed Head Coupe - Fast Road Specification - £50,000 - 60,000
1934 Bentley 3.5 Litre Two Door Coupe by Thrupp & Maberly - £40,000 - 48,000
In addition to the motor cars, the sale features 219 lots of automobilia including Micky Mouse - A superb Desmo accessory mascot, fully licenced by Disney, cold-cast and still retaining a decent amount of the original paint, estimated at £360 - £400.
