Snapshot, 1984: Roger Moore settles his taxi fare in Paris
In pursuit of the paragliding villain May Day (played by Grace Jones), Moore commandeered a nonchalant local taxi driver’s Renault 11 before haring across the French capital in spite of the obstacles in his way – namely the barrier that ripped off the roof and the oncoming traffic, which severed the poor car in half. Not to worry – Bond’s steely determination (and boundless charm) got him to his destination: a riverboat party on the Seine. Alas, May Day had already joined her partner in crime Max Zorin (Christopher Walken) and escaped via speedboat. Still, a canapé (or two), a Martini, and some good – no doubt, female – company should keep Bond (and Moore, come to think of it) happy. The villain lives to die another day. It’s a shame the same can’t be said for the poor Renault 11.
We were saddened to hear that Sir Roger Moore, the much-loved English actor and star of Classic Driver favourites James Bond and The Persuaders!, has passed away at the age of 89.
