This photographer was one of the first to capture the real New York City

A true unsung hero of photography, Marvin Newman’s expansive body of work brought 1940s to 1980s New York to life, from Wall Street to Broadway and everywhere in between. Somehow, this work went undiscovered for many years, until now…

Colour in the USA

Despite his varied work for numerous publications, such as Life, Playboy, and Sports Illustrated, the street photography of Marvin Newman has recently garnered global appreciation for the incredible honesty and visceral style of his candid colour shots. Newman was one of the first to capture the Big Apple in colour, and now a new book by Taschen is showcasing 170 images from this unsung photographer. City of Lights features not just imagery from New York, but from all over America, and it’s a must-have for any fan of the time period Newman so vibrantly documented.
