You shouldn’t miss this icy Concours of Elegance in St. Moritz

On 2 March, the new International Concours of Elegance – or ‘The Ice’ for short – will take place for the first time on the frozen lake of St. Moritz. Classic Driver will be there…

The winter break in the classic car world is a thing of the past nowadays. We’ve already had the GP Ice Race in Zell am See this year, which showed us how much fun can be had on the ice and the snow with the right cars. And now the swanky Swiss sports mecca St. Moritz is playing catch up with the first edition of the International Concours of Elegance, dubbed ‘The Ice’ for short, which will take place on the town’s frozen lake this weekend. For the international Jet Set, which traditionally spends its winter holidays Cresta riding, horseracing, eating ice cream, and traversing the sunny Engadin in stylish SUVs, the automotive concours promises to be another highlight on the already-full seasonal calendar.

This won’t be the first time that the lake of St. Moritz has been used for automotive adventures – there was the ‘Lake Parade’ for the 125th anniversary of the Cresta Run in 2010 and Stefan Bogner’s skijoring stunt just over a year ago. We’re curious to see what the organisers of ‘The Ice’ – who include Marco Makaus, the grand seigneur of the Italian classical music scene – have got in store for us at the first edition. We’d be delighted to meet one or two readers on the ice on Saturday.

Further information about ‘The Ice’ can be found on the event’s official website
