The weird and the wonderful from Dorotheum in Salzburg

On 28 October, Dorotheum will offer close to 100 collector cars and motorcycles at its Classic Expo Salzburg sale. And as we’ve come to expect from the Austrian auction house, the catalogue comprises a wonderful selection of the weird and the wonderful. These are our favourites…

At its annual Classic Expo Salzburg sale, taking place on 20 October, the historic auction house Dorotheum has curated a large and interesting catalogue of collector cars, catering to a wide variety of automotive tastes. Naturally, if you’re in the market for an exotic Italian you’ll not go far wrong with the 1979 Ferrari 308 GTB (est. 65,000–80,000 euros) or the jaw-droppingly beautiful matching-numbers 1965 Lancia Flaminia Super Sport 3C 2.8 Zagato (340,000–420,000 euros).

But for those with a penchant for the more eclectic of cars, how about the 1952 Alfa Romeo 1900 ‘Matta’ (16,000–24,000 euros), an interesting and cheaper alternative to the Land Rover Series 1, or the 1973 Chevrolet Impala police car (12,000–18,000 euros). If we could choose one car to take home from the sale, however, it would be the stunning 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE Coupé estimated at 48,000–62,000 euros – Making Green Great Again has never looked so good. You can find our 12 favourites listed below or, alternatively, browse the entire catalogue in the Classic Driver Market.
