Snapshot, 1952: Last fuel stop before the desert...

Giovanni Bracco and his Ferrari 250 Sport Vignale Berlinetta enjoy a brief respite from the demands of the 1952 Carrera Panamericana at a fuel station, somewhere in Mexico…

The Italian driver and his steed – a pairing that had won the Mille Miglia earlier that year – take some time to prepare ahead of the seventh leg of the gruelling, 3,111km race. Ultimately, Bracco was forced to retire with a shattered gearbox on the penultimate stage of the fourth day while in the lead; Karl Kling and Hans Klenk eventually took the win in their Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, despite the famous vulture incident.
