This off-road Alfa Romeo GTV is ready for anything

From tracker motorcycles to safari-style Porsche 911s, there has been a surge in popularity for the knobbly tyre and raised suspension aesthetic on old machinery. This 1974 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV is something altogether different, however, and had fate not stepped in, it may not have existed…

Have suspension, with travel

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, and when an incompetent tow truck driver damages your Alfa Romeo, make an off-road monster. After five glorious years of owning his hot-rodded GTV, with its high compression engine, lowered suspension, and other such tweaks, and enjoying it profusely on California’s carving canyon roads, a routine trip to the garage ended in disaster for Iliya Bridan. Although the exact circumstances have never come to light, it’s believed the little Alfa took a six-foot drop to the ground off the back off a flatbed truck, heavily damaging the rear end and engine, among other components. Fuelled by a less than helpful insurance firm, a plan was hatched to create something very unusual and, above all, fun. Custom suspension and shocks were built for the car, giving it its towering stance, while the engine was rebuilt and other necessary repairs were carried out. Finished with a custom roof rack, the resulting creation is one of the most captivating builds we’ve seen in some time and, with a doubt, a head turner on the streets of California…
