1962 BRUNNERT-GRIMM CHRIS CRAFT ‘NEW CRAFT’

KEY FACTS
● This 1962 ‘New Craft’ is a gorgeous mahogany V8-powered sports boat, built by Switzerland's Brunnert-Grimm under licence from the American boatbuilder Chris-Craft.
● It is powered by a 283ci (4.6-litre) small–block V8 Chris-Craft marine engine, producing around 136kW / 185hp.
● Brunnert-Grimm reportedly built numerous Chris-Craft designed mahogany classics during the 1960s and 1970s and was the only company other than Riva to hold a licence for the boats.
● This example was commissioned by a Swiss industrialist in 1963 from the Brunnert-Grimm AG shipyard in Gottlieben, with a copy of the contract available on file.
● However, according to the vehicle registration document, it was not completed and launched until October 1968.
● Around 30 years later, the boat was passed on to its second keeper and was subsequently treated to a comprehensive restoration.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

● This Chris-Craft licensed Brunnert-Grimm build is finished with an eye-catching mahogany exterior, with a red painted lower hull, over a two-tone red and cream vinyl-trimmed cabin, with wood panelling around the speedometer, oil pressure and oil temperature dials.
● It measures 6.4-metres long and 2.1-metres wide, and weighs approximately 1,400kg.
● The boat can safely transport up to six people.
● Its ‘SS’ specification is believed to refer to an example with particularly long service intervals.
● Equipment includes a swim ladder, fire extinguisher, two oars, a bimini top and a tarpaulin.
● The accompanying Huwyler trailer has valid TÜV paperwork until November 2022, as well as a 100km/h speed rating approval.
● It will be accompanied by its original owner’s manuals and German registration papers.

CONDITION

● There has been no known bodywork damage.
● Its mahogany woodwork appears to be free of any major wear, though there are some small marks and imperfections in the finish, and the chrome trim pieces have some light pitting. The exhaust outlet has some notable rust around the tail pipe and the mounting plate.
● Inside, a few marks can be seen on the red vinyl seat backs and around the edge of the white steering wheel, but the cabin is otherwise in very good condition.
● No electrical or mechanical faults have been detected.

SERVICE HISTORY

● A service tag shows that the engine was given an oil and filter change in October 2019.
● In the spring of 2013, the original V8 engine was fully overhauled.
● The upholstery and upper deck were restored in 2004, and again in 2007.
● It also received a new underside and a comprehensive re-wiring.

SUMMARY

This Christ-Craft ‘New Craft’ is a superb classic sports boat, built under licence in period by Switzerland’s Brunnert-Grimm. Having benefited from extensive prior restoration work, along with an engine overhaul and a new underside, this durable mahogany classic is now ready to be enjoyed on the water for many years to come.
