Produced for three decades, from the early 1940’s to the late 1960’s, reference 1463 represents the Patek Philippe chronograph par excellence. At the time it was the first and only waterproof chronograph of the Geneva brand, with screwback case and large round pushers, which earned it the nickname “Tasti Tondi” from Italian collectors.
It is believed that only 750 pieces were produced, with the majority of them in yellow gold, very few in steel, and an extremely limited number in rose gold, like the watch in the catalogue.
Despite the limited production volume, the 1463 experimented with several subtle variations, mainly affecting the dial design (in particular, the pieces produced in the last years of production are distinguished by the lack of Arabic or Roman numerals at 6 and 12, and of the outer railway track).
The cases, produced by the famous case maker Frères Borgel, house the superb 13’’’ calibre, used as the chronograph base for other historic references that added the perpetual calendar complication, such as the 1518 and the 2499.
The watch that we are lucky enough to offer for sale is in incredible original condition, as it has remained in the hands of the same family and was consigned to us by the son of the one and only owner, who received it as a wedding present.
This 1463 is accompanied by the original box, warranty, business card of the boutique from which it was purchased, and the extract from the archives; it presents a charming patina of the dial, upon which the brand logo and the various graphics remain vivid and intact, as well as the case with its original proportions.
