ANDREW FOWLDS QUARTER STRIKING
CLOCKWATCH "AFFECTION & INNOCENCE"
Andrew Fowlds, London, No. 6115. Made for the Chinese
market, circa 1780.
Very fine and very rare, gilt-brass, painted on enamel,
pearl-set, pair-cased, two-train, quarter-striking clockwatch
with center-seconds.
Outer: Two-body, the bezel pierced and engraved and set
with pearls, the back decorated with a rectangular painted
on enamel panel depicting "Affection & Innocence" after an
engraving by Francesco Bartolozzi, translucent blue guilloche
enamel border edged with pearls, outermost pierced
and engraved border to match the bezel. Gilt brass dust cap.
White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute
divisions and Arabic five minute numerals. Gold beetle
and poker hands, gold center-seconds hand.
38 mm., gilt brass full plate entirely engraved with
foliage, turned cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, cylinder
escapement, three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt
brass single-foot balance cock pierced and engraved with
scrolling foliage, silver regulation dial, striking with two
polished steel hammers on a bell in the back of the case,
strike-silent selection lever on the bezel.
