Produced from 1937 to 1949, the Cabriolet version of the Aprilia was years ahead of technical solutions that would become the standard in the post-war period. Equipped with a 1,350-cc narrow-V4-cylinder engine capable of delivering 47 hp and a top speed of around 105 km/h. The body design was highly elegant and aerodynamic, with clean, tight lines. It was considered a high-end car; it was equipped with a soft top that could be folded down to enjoy the landscape while driving. The Aprilia Cabriolet was very popular among wealthy vintage car enthusiasts for its beauty, reliability and performance. Unfortunately, production of this car, with an uncertain number of examples built, was interrupted due to the war and only a few models have survived to the present day.
The chronological record provided with the car documents ownership of this Aprilia in the post-war period, starting from 6 August 1945, when the car was registered by a gentleman from the province of Treviso. He was followed by two owners living in Padua and four other collectors were able to appreciate the car before it was bought by its current owner, a well-known collector from Bologna in the early 2000s. The latter had his Aprilia Cabriolet restored and repainted in its original black livery. Similarly, the brown leather interior matches the one fitted as the original equipment. The restoration of the mechanical part was executed by the well-known Officina Gamberini in Bologna, who upgraded the engine with double-body carburettors, Nardi intake manifolds and an English-made exhaust manifold. Thanks to these improvements, the Aprilia Cabriolet we present boasts remarkable performance. The car is registered in Italy and is ASI homologated.
