Beschreibung

Moto Guzzi has been renowned throughout its history for its advanced engineering and particularly for its unique engine configurations. Its transverse V-Twin is the most well-known, but it was the horizontal single-cylinder that spurred the company’s early success.

The horizontal engine layout never compromised frame design in the way that a tall, long-stroke single did. With the engine mounted horizontally, Moto Guzzis could be made with much lower frames, which improved handling and aerodynamics. Moto Guzzi was also known for its large external flywheel, which allowed the crankcase to remain rigid and compact, and became known by enthusiasts as the “bologna slicer.”

An evolution of the G.T.V., the Astore was first introduced in 1949 and was the first Moto Guzzi 500 to feature a light-alloy cylinder and head. This gorgeously restored example was purchased in 2016 by Miami-based collector Leo Schigiel to complement his impressive stable of Moto Guzzis and other blue-chip Italian motorcycles. After his purchase, Mr. Schigiel and his wife Lisa showed the Astore at the prestigious Quail Motorcycle Gathering in 2016, in California. Accompanied by a Moto Guzzi Certificato d’Origine documenting its frame and engine numbers, this Astore is an exceedingly rare find and would be an outstanding addition to any collection of sporting motorcycles.
