Beschreibung

Redline Restorations is pleased to offer this 1961 Maserati Sebring Prototype. This is one of two Maserati Sebring Prototypes ever built. Alfredo Vignale built this platform off his already successful Maserati 3500GT Spyder. This design was first introduced in prototype form at the Geneva Motor Show, the Salone dell'automobile di Torino, and the Paris Automobile Show. The ‘Sebring' name originated from Maserati's success at the Florida airfield track where, in 1957, Maserati took 1st and 2nd place at the famous 12 Hours of Sebring.

The Sebring was designed on a short wheelbase chassis, much like the 3500GT spyder at 2.5 meters long. It was designed as an occasional 2+2 with a simple rear bench seat, however legroom in the rear is minimal. A 5-speed manual transmission and disc brakes came standard from the factory, while an automatic transmission was available by request. Power is delivered to the rear wheels from Maserati's flagship 3.5L inline 6-cylinder engine, that produced roughly 235hp.

This Maserati was acquired from a private collection in Belgium. The car has since received a full restoration including a bare metal respray, and a re-upholstered interior. At the foundation of this car is a steel body with an aluminum bonnet and bootlid. This particular example reflects more styling cues from the Series II production series. The new design aspects include horizontally mounted tail lights, squared off bumpers, and re-designed headlights. The side grilles are the same design as the Series I.
