Beschreibung

In 1961, Mercedes-Benz launched the W111-series coupes and cabriolets as sophisticated variations of the fintail sedans. Both coupe and convertible previewed the future, as the sedans lost their fins in 1965. Powered by the 2,195 cc six-cylinder engine in the 220 SE, and the 2,996 cc six-cylinder in the 300 SE, the 1969 debut of the 3.5-liter V-8 took the platform to an entirely new level. This final revision of the W111 enabled the cars to reach more than 125 mph in comfort.

The car on offer was recently found in a private Mercedes-Benz collection in Virginia. It is one of 808 sunroof coupes sold in the US in 1971, and one of as few as 100 to also feature the floor–shift option. The car has Behr air-conditioning, power steering, and the correct Becker Europa radio. An excellent older repaint was finished in silver metallic, with a distinctive red leather interior, as originally delivered. The body appears particularly straight, with superb panel fit, chrome, and trim.

This sleek coupe shows very well inside and out and indicates 92,300 wellmaintained miles. It has recently had a comprehensive $18,000 service, and its original wood trim has been expertly refinished. The car is accompanied by a copy of its factory data sheet, tool roll and jack, owner’s manual, and maintenance and parts manuals. Its timeless design and ideal color combination are sure to delight its next caretaker.
