1981 Lotus Eclat Series 2 Coupé
Chassis no. SCCB 832AHG10207
The Lotus Eclat was introduced in 1975 as a sister model to the radically-restyled and luxurious Lotus Elite Series 2. The twin-cam engined Lotus Eclat was intended to sell at a more affordable price than the Elite. The two models varied mainly in the upper half of the company's revolutionary new Vacuum-Assisted Resin Injection moulding system bodywork. The roofline of the Eclat sloped down into a fastback tail and in fact the Lotus deisgn team had for some time referred to this model as the 'Elite Coupe'. The Eclat had a conventional bootlid in contrast to the Elite model's hatchback. Styling on both cars was by Oliver Winterbottom, while basis of both cars was a matching backbone-type chassis with independent suspension front and rear. In fact the original Eclat would out-sell the Elite and by the end of the original model's production run in 1980 some 1,299 had been made.
