Beschreibung

Estimated Price: £20,000 - £30,000 Year by year, the L322 generation of Range Rover seems to grow in popularity. Its styling and presence as well as it’s superb on and off road capability continues to captivate younger and older car enthusiasts alike. Launched in 2002, they quickly became a status symbol for A-list celebrities and motoring royalty such as Jeremy Clarkson, Harry Metcalfe and of course prominent members of the Royal Family.

Besides its unique history, this L322 represents a rare crossover in the models line-up as, from 2005, buyers could specify their Range Rover with Jaguar’s own AJV8 with or without an added supercharger. This example is the 4.4-Litre naturally-aspirated model which, when new, produced approximately 296bhp and 315 ft.lbs of torque, coupled with the newly available ZF six-speed automatic gearbox fed to all four wheels utilising Land Rover’s pioneering terrain response system.

Originally supplied new to the Metropolitan Police, DV55 UFA entered 'fleet service' on 30/11/2005 with just 119 miles covered at the time. As with all vehicles of this nature it can be difficult to clarify and track down its exact role and who it carried or more importantly who it was driven by. However, it is evident that this car was tasked with a protection role for members of the Royal Family including shadowing Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth in one of the State Bentley Limousines on the Sandringham Estate during the Christmas Service of 2008.

While the actual Church Service was not open to the public, the crowds and media nevertheless gathered outside to watch a stream of members of the Royal Family arrive at the Church on Christmas Day which was importantly captured by cameras and a video of this is available to watch on YouTube.
DV55 UFA was specified in one of the most desirable and quintessentially Royal exterior colours of Tonga Green matched with Charcoal Leather, matching trim, dog guard, detachable tow bar and clear glass. It was fitted with additional modifications including a calibrated speedometer, additional aerial, heavy duty roof rails and of course mounting points for now removed emergency lights.

We understand that the car, part of a very small pool of Royal protection Range Rovers in the Metropolitan’s Police employ, was understandably serviced diligently given its official duties. Supported by its Service History Log and presumably maintained in one of the ‘Met’s’ dedicated workshops, it received no less than six engine services and three brake fluid changes. The car was then removed from service in February of 2009 having covered 71,339 miles.

DV55 UFA was then released to the public, with presumably nothing known of it’s Royal connections, and was purchased by its next owner in April of 2009 and remained with them until 2023. Maintenance records were then kept in the car's service book with another six stamps on display with all services shown to be undertaken by Westover Land Rover of Christchurch.

Presently the car records a shade over 183,000 miles and has been comprehensively recommissioned and cosmetically returned to its former glory. The expected rust issues found on L322s on the rear arch area have been dealt with, reportedly the tailgates of this era seemingly hold up better than even newer models, and this one still displays very well. The 19-inch wheels have also been refurbished and powder coated and the whole vehicle professionally detailed to present in the condition you see here.

Mechanically the list of recent works is even greater with a reconditioned gearbox and brand new torque converter being installed, a comprehensive overhaul of the front suspension, replacement of the air compressor as well as a new battery, alternator and struts for both the boot and bonnet. More typical servicing has also been carried out with a new set of brake pads and discs fitted as well as the renewal of all drivetrain fluids including transfer case and front and rear differentials. Lastly a full engine service with new spark plugs has also been carried out to return this Range Rover to a fine majestic fettle.

With well maintained L322 Range Rovers, particularly in the ‘right’ colours, now firmly in demand, this is an excellent opportunity to own an example that is not only a sweet spot in the range with the arguably more rugged Jaguar V8 engine but one with a direct Royal history. Freshly recommissioned and still retaining the Met-Police modifications, your interest and inspection is encouraged to fully appreciate the vehicle offered here.
