To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' The Munich Auction event, 20 November 2026.
- Final year for the first-generation Corvette, bearing late-production styling and performance upgrades
- Powered by a 327-cubic-inch V-8 with dual four-barrel carburettors and a four-speed manual transmission
- Finished in striking Roman Red with Ermine White coves
- Well preserved; body-off restoration carried out under previous ownership
- Previously part of The Zegwaard Collection
The 1961 model year brought styling updates to the Chevrolet Corvette, commensurate with a shift away from the glitzy chrome and extravagant tail fins of the 1950s to a more muted aesthetic. The Corvette’s toothy front grille was gone, while the rear received a new tapered tail that foreshadowed the look of the stunning new Stingray due for 1963. Changes for 1962 were minor, with a blacked-out grille and a new ribbed moulding for the rocker panels. The biggest news for 1962, the final model year for the first-generation “C1” Corvette, was a larger 327-cubic-inch V-8. Output ranged from around 250 to an impressive 360 PS when equipped with mechanical fuel injection.
Finished in brilliant Roman Red with Ermine White coves and a Black interior, this Corvette was previously part of the noted Zegwaard Collection, owned by Dutch entrepreneur Wim Zegwaard, until 2012. Prior to the consignor acquiring it, the car benefitted from a comprehensive body-off restoration carried out 15 years ago in Europe. It now awaits a new caretaker to appreciate its beauty and brawn as an excellent choice for both touring and show events.
