Produced from 1995 to 2006, the Honda Integra Type R was just the second model to carry the hallowed red Type R badge and introduced the elite specification, first seen on the exclusive NSX supercar, to a broader audience. It has since become one of the most revered and sought-after Japanese performance cars of all time, thanks to its high-revving B18C inline four-cylinder VTEC engine, superb driving dynamics, pleasing overall design, and exceptional reliability.

Type R chassis modifications, relative to the already impressive standard third-generation Integra, included suspension, tyre, wheel, and brake upgrades, while the body received additional bracing and spot welds to increase strength and rigidity. Weight reduction measures included removing sound insulation, a thinner windscreen, and lightweight 15-inch wheels. To maximise weight savings, air conditioning and audio systems were optional on Japanese Domestic Market examples. A front chin spoiler, large rear wing, and lower ride height improved aerodynamics.

The centrepiece of the Integra Type R driving experience was its 1.8-litre inline four-cylinder with hand-polished intake and exhaust ports, high-compression pistons, revised intake system, retuned exhaust, and lighter flywheel. Rated at 197 horsepower and 131 pound-feet of torque in JDM specification, the magic was not in how much power it could generate, but how it was delivered. It eagerly span to a lofty 8,400 rpm redline, the sound and acceleration increasing dramatically as Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control kicked in above 6,000 rpm.

Offered here is a desirable, unmodified Japanese-market “DC2” coupé finished in the signature Type R colour scheme of Championship White with matching wheels and a black interior. A Car VX Vehicle History Report on file indicates that it was first registered in Japan in March 1998. The car retains its correct red badging and factory interior fitments, including carbon fibre-look trim, Recaro seats, optional Gathers head unit, and titanium shift knob. An aftermarket Nardi three-spoke leather steering wheel and a rear strut-tower brace have been installed.

The Integra Type R was auctioned in Chiba, Japan in August 2021, with the odometer recorded at 67,640 kilometres. The Car VX report also notes the car was last registered in Japan in April 2022. The consigning owner acquired the car in 2024 and imported it to the United Kingdom, ensuring that it has remained well maintained and in stock condition while conscientiously enjoying it, including on a road trip through Switzerland in 2025, which was the subject of a Classic Driver feature.

To the discerning Type R enthusiast, this example appeals on many levels: a JDM car with Japanese ownership for more than 20 years and offered in stock condition with its original factory features and signature Championship White colour scheme. Displaying just 70,755 kilometres kilometres at the time of cataloguing, it is truly a fascinating find.
